Is it normal to still have half an inch of dark roots after having hair highlighted?

I have brown hair and regularly get it highlighted blond at a salon using foil. I usually get it done when I have 2 inches of growth. I notice that I still have half an inch of dark roots when she is finished. Is this normal for a foil highlight? She certainly takes her time and seems to be very conscientious. I sit there for 2 hours.

foiling should get it to 1/4" from scalp not 1/2" she just needs to take smaller sections in the foil just ask her if she can get it a little closer the next time you go in and if she can't get it where you want try another stylist but talk to her first to give her a chance. hope this helps

Yes this is normal.

Hi-lighted hair is eitha done by a cap or by foils.

If you want the colour right to your scalp you have to ask for that. Most hairdressers prefer to "hi-light" as this doesnt damage your hair as much.

Half an inch is nothing and very un-noticable.

Depending on the salon! Even if your using foils after they are applied she should still use the color brush to your roots! Even though your roots are not protected in the foil they should still be colored to match! Most hair salons do not use the caps anymore unless you ask for them! I would mention it to her about doing the roots better, theres nothing that a hairstylist dosent like more than a good customer correcting her mistakes because thats what makes a great client!
