Getting my hair colored for the first time...advise?

i have dirty blond hair and i am going to get some lighter highlights. just a few to give my hair color a little more color.

what should i do to prepare before i go? should my hair be clean or dirty? should i super condition the day before? i know what color and look i am going for and trust in the person that is doing it but is there anything i should look out for or any tips i should know?

I have been getting my hair colored for years and have been told that going in with dirty hair is best! Bring in pictures so they have a great visual of what you want and make sure to ask if it is possible with the kind of hair you have. I have very thin hair and certain looks with color just don't look right! If you want a white/platinum blonde specify that. if you want a warmer golden blonden then lt them know...for some reason I used to thinmk that hairstylist had this power of reading my mind...not so much! You are paying them to do what you want so make sure you speak up!! Good Luck...

you just show up i think if your hair is dirtier it will last longer so if you get your hair done on like a friday dont wash it until like sunday so your highlights will last linger and look newer longer.i did the same thing you are going to get.

Your hair should be washed and conditioned cleanly. After they dye your hair, that's when you have to leave it alone for at least 2 days without shampooing, ect...

Well, clean it really well before you go because then it will look better.

And they will fade after a while so you have to keep going back for touch-ups.

its not so much before but after that you need to prepare for.

yes you should have your hair dirty, but not too dirty.

if you cant, dont worry about it but if you can then i would recommend buying a shampoo and conditioner for blondes to use after to make sure you arent wasting your money on highlites then letting them fade.

Color is applied to dry hair. I always suggest to my clients to wash your hair the day before you go into the salon and don't use any products in it. This will keep it pretty clean, plus it will allow natural oils which will cover your scalp and prevent it from staining and burning.

No worries about super conditioning. Conditioner coats the hair cuticle and will make it harder to color.

you should make sure you don't have any products in your hair at the time, but the packaging on some of the home-dyes says for your hair to not be just cleaned.

you didn't say whether the person who is doing your hair is professional or not, so here's some specific color advice: if you're dirty blonde/light brown - beware any of the "golden blonde" colors. My natural hair color has changed over the years from blonde - dirty blonde - light/medium brown %26amp; I've tried to dye it back to blonde recently (used a Golden blonde) %26amp; it went Copper instead!! (Luckily I don't look too bad as a red-head, but it wasn't what I was going for.) You might try Ash blonde instead, or before the full color job, do a test dye on a lock of hair that's usually hidden, just to see how it takes the dye.

if your getting highlights i suggest yuo wash your hair the day before so its not all gross when the lasdy is applying bleach and color, but you want to make sure your hair is dry for the process, because it has to be dry to put in the color. afterwards you just wash out remaining color anyways. conditioning doesnt matter either, in words of importance towards the highlights.

If you are getting your hair colored professionally you should be fine, they should know what they are doing and will make recommendations if needed. Just make sure that you do not shampoo or condition your hair the day of your coloring it will help the color be absorbed better into your hair if it is unwashed. I wouldn't condition your hair a lot the day before either, I don't think it would make much of a difference. Also after you get your hair colored, avoid chlorine. I am only saying this because it is summertime and people like to swim. Good luck with your hair, dirty blonde hair with light highlights is really pretty in my opinion.

ok,you should always wash ur hair before the highlights or they MIGHT wash it for you.either way.but the hair stylist wil ltell u wut you should do and how u should attened to ur hair.and how long will it be till u can wash ur hair.or if she dont say that than just ask her.
